Velania: Presidential Residence

Predominantly inhabited by the Albanian community, the Velania neighborhood became home to numerous departments of Pristina University in the ‘90s. By 1993, for safety reasons, Kosovo’s president and the leader of Democratic League of Kosovo at the time, Ibrahim Rugova, also settled with his family in Velania. The presidential residence became a meeting point of Rugova with foreign political delegations. Both interior and the exterior of the presidential residence have kept their original appearances. Today, when late president’s family receives visits by high state officials, Rugova’s armchair remains unoccupied, symbolically marking his absence.
