The Elementary School Elena Gjika, formerly known as Vuk Karadžić, is one of the few that did not undergo major transformations in its original floor plan. Designed by the architect Momir Korunović, it was built between 1926-1928. The treatment of the decor on the main facade with round geometric shapes is considered to register the influences of Austro-Hungarian style. However, the initiatives taken to preserve the building have visibly affected its original facade, windows and roof. Today, the teaching in this school is conducted in two languages, Albanian and Turkish. Also, it is one of the rare institutions of primary education that offers classes for deaf children. Since 2014, the building is in the cultural heritage list under temporary protection.
