Located across from the Municipal Assembly, the Sudi Efendi Mosque was built in 1569 and served the Hasan Emin Aga Mahalla and Meshçit Mahalla residents. Beyond its function for namaz prayers, the mosque also served as a mektep. Every year at this mosque, dozens of pupils attend classes. Starting in the 1930s, the guardian of the mosque was Sudi Efendi, a respected member of community. Since that time, the mosque bears his name. The mosque’s yard, it is thought, was used as a cemetery for key figures of Islamic culture, but no traces of that have remained. Also, for many years in a row, during the month of Ramadan the imam Çorr Hafizi had recited the entire Quran by heart.
