The rewriting of Pristina’s history during Milosević’s regime was particularly visible on the university campus. Its green landscape became a semantic battlefield. The centerpiece of the garden in front of Philological Faculty was the statue of Vuk Karadžić, a linguist and reformer of Serbian language, sculpted in bronze by Zoran Karalejić in 1995. Karalejić was a former mentee of Agim Çavdarbasha, and his works were primarily modernist. However, in the ‘90s his art practice changed by serving Serb nationalist ideology. The statue was torn down after the Kosovo War during a massive Albanian rally on July 2, 1999.
