Member of the Ilegalja movement, Metush Krasniqi (1928) was an activist and founder of many illegal political organisations in his lifetime. Imprisoned multiple times, he died in Pristina state hospital after several months of torture in prison. Twenty-five years later, in 2011, a life-size statue sculpted by Ismet Jonuzi was unveiled. Not much is known about Krasniqi apart from the fact that he belonged to one of the fractions of Ilegalja. When free, which was a rare event, they never organised in larger groups than three people, who wrote little and documented even less, always cautious of traces they might leave behind. Erecting a statue to commemorate an Ilegalja member is a statement, an attempt to write the history of many families persecuted politically in Yugoslavia.
