In the Tophane neighbourhood, right beside the old Divan Yoli Street, stands the Meto Bajraktari Elementary School which was built in the second half of the 1950s. The school provided education in Pristina’s many languages. The recognition of Turkish as an official language in Yugoslavia in 1951 led to creation of classes in this language. Meto Bajraktar was built with the intention of gathering these dispersed classes around the town into one building. In addition to Turkish, Meto Bajraktar also had classes in Albanian and in Serbian. In 1997, the only class in Turkish language was moved to Elena Gjika Elementary School, while Serbian classes were discontinued in 1999.
