The Kosovo Writers’ Union was founded in the ‘50s and served as a platform to promote Kosovo Albanian literature. Its role became quite crucial in articulating Albanian positions on the political developments of 1989. The history of Democratic League of Kosovo is connected to the Kosovo writers’ Union; the party was founded during a series of discussions at their offices. At what is known today as the Museum of Independence, Ibrahim Rugova and other activists at the time held 10AM Friday press conferences for local and international press to report on human rights violations happening in Kosovo during Milosević’s regime.
