Mother Teresa Square in Pristina is not a site where statues go to retire — quite the contrary, they’re actively mapping out the past. Therefore, it is not a coincidence that the city’s main square has more time packed into it than space available to accommodate all national heroes to date. The versatile styles of the commemorative practices display stylistic ruptures and discontinuities; erected in the name of collective values, each political system in Kosovo introduced its identity markers, mirroring national ideals and ideologies on the urban landscape. This walk invites peculiar curiosity and a multitemporal dialogue with public history.
