Newborn

Unveiled on the day Kosovo declared independence on February 17, 2008, the Newborn monument symbolizes the youngest country in Europe. Newborn, a typographic sculpture, introduced itself as a monument always in-the-making; at first, the citizens were invited to put their signatures, performing an act similar to that of the assembly members signing the independence declaration. Later, they were invited to join the process of redefining what it stands for; each year it sends out a different message by changing its outward appearance. The monument was designed by Karrota, a local team of designers.
